MAUSER INFO
So I bought an 8mm Mauser without knowing much about them other than their roll in the wars in Germany, but still not much. After a little research I learned that I had bought a Czech Mauser 98K, and come to find out with ALL matching serial numbers. BUT I STILL CAN'T FIND A FRIGGIN VALUE FOR THIS RIFLE! Anyone have any idea what she's worth!?

What model is it? There should be a marking somewhere. Also condition, matching numbers, etc. are factors too.

it's not considered 98k if made anywhere else outsude Germany. parts for those are not interchangeable therefore not clone.
german large ring 98k has long action, while Yugos and czechs are intermediate length action.
sellers misrepresent these same way they do with Czech Vz82 and Polish P64, calling both Makarovs, while those clearly are not, although chambered for 9mm Makarov. whether intentional or not it is misrepresentation nevertheless.Last edited by dnepro-mike; 08-02-2012 at 04:03 PM.

Could be a re-work. I've got a k98 made in Germany that was scrubbed by the Czechs.

There were some post war made in Czeck republic on the original tooling that was left behind. Most of these will have the "winter" trigger guard. Like others have said, picture will tell the story.

if it looks anything like pic below then it's Czech Vz24.
Note that upper hand-guard extends past rear site all the way to the receiver.
98k hand-guard does not. usually this is the fastest tell-tale to recognize non-98k Mauser

Similar, but not quite. Of course I didn't check the site when I got out of work to take pics, but I will do that today and repost ASAP. The hand does not go past the rear sight. The Stock is a little different at the rear as well, the sling goes through the stock and there is a hole with the metal "rings" that is used for the removal of the firing pin. It also has a curved bolt handle.
