I'm just about done installing my FT-857 in my Isuzu Trooper. I used a lip mount half way up the rear door, bolted the body of the radio to the side wall in the rear area then ran the seperation kit cables to the front seat where the radio's face is. Today 14M was fairly quiet and with the engin off, but all accessories on I had very little noise (S-1 ish). With the engine running the noise reads about S-3. The noise does not vary with engine speed and doesn't sound like alternator whine or spark plugs. No change with the heater fan or headlights.

I have a lot of driving to do this week and was hoping to enjoy some contacts but they'll have to be pretty strong with the current noise situation.

Any ideas for what I can try to reduce the noise?

I've got a few of them with some cabling, control heads, mics, a couple of speakers for FREE! You pick up, either this Saturday or in a few weeks when I return to MA. I just don't want to move them.

These are previous police/fire radios, and If I recall they are the 100+ watt versions. I forget what they're programmed for so you'll have to take care of that.

First "I'll take them" rules. PM me here.

Thanks.

Last week Realtor Ma, Cockpitbob and I tried Simplex communications on 2m band. We had some success with Realtor Ma and Cockpit talking on the Simplex. I say if anyone is interested we can try to simplex and see who hits who. When all else fails we can use this forum or jump onto the Waltham repeater if not in use.

What do you all think?
