Attorney General Eric Holder said that his biggest failure during his time as head of the Justice Department was failing to pass expanded gun control laws and criticized former Defense Secretary Leon Panetta for his negative characterizations of the president during an interview aired on Monday’s broadcast of “The Lead” on CNN.

Documents obtained through a lawsuit recently issued against the City of Phoenix by government watchdog Judicial Watch reveal a weapon from the Department of Justice's Operation Fast and Furious was used to injure two people in a 2013 gang-style assault on an apartment complex. When the incident occurred and during investigation afterward, police worked with federal law enforcement agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, Department of Homeland Security, FBI and Drug Enforcement Agency in the case, raising suspicions the assault wasn't simply a typical, local gang shootout and prompted questions about the details of where the weapons that were used came from.

Civilian firearm ownership is among the most defining aspects of American culture. The freedoms we cherish in the United States simply wouldn’t exist without the right to bear arms, and the preservation of liberty thrives on grassroots gun owners.

Unfortunately, the rights of civilians to arm and legally defend themselves are constantly at risk.

Gun laws in the U.S. vary extensively across the map, but geography is not always an accurate predictor of a state’s freedom index. Many states in the South and West have taken steps to expand the rights of their citizens during recent legislative sessions. In places like Arizona, Georgia and Kentucky, gun ownership is encouraged and shooting sports are widely popular. In other locations, gun ownership is condemned, heavily regulated and residents have few opportunities to experience the sporting aspects of firearms. States like California, Connecticut and New York have repeatedly illustrated their disregard for individual rights through legislation that restricts the ability of its citizens to purchase and possess firearms.

So how does the contest work? Just like it says above. On Nov. 14th we'll compile a list of likes, shares, Twitter followers, user names from internet forums that have posted about the contest, etc., and use a computer machine program thingy to randomly select the winner.

But how will we know which forums, pages, etc., you've posted to, you ask? We'll that's what they tell us these computer machines do. (When they're not busy plotting our imminent overthrow.) And so far they seem to be doing a pretty good job of giving us the link information of every page that's directed traffic to our site. And if that doesn't work, we'll just ask the NSA because well... who needs reports or back up drives or The Cloud or any of that stuff now that the administration copies everything we write on computers anyway. Fourth Amendment and Bill of Rights be damned, we've got a Facebook contest to run! We're kidding obviously, but with our sense of humor here it's impossible not to play it up for the Anti-2A types in the mainstream media who love painting firearms owners as a bunch of slack-jawed, toothless hillbillies.

Or you can just fill out the contact form below with your name and email address. Please put "Defender Giveaway" in the comment section, and we'll add you that way as well.

Thanks for helping us get the word out. Remember the more likes, shares, Tweets, posts, etc., that you make, the more likely you are to win. We're looking forward to picking a winner next month!

    By John Blake

    (CNN) -- Here's a thought experiment:

What if large groups of African-American men carrying shotguns and semi-automatic rifles started moseying into stores across America to tout their support of open-carry gun laws?

Would they be greeted by the same anxious looks shoppers gave groups of armed white men who did the same this summer at Target stores and chain restaurants like Chipotle? Or something more lethal?

For Charles Gallagher, a sociologist who studies race, the answer to that "what if" is easy.
