Harvard Sportsmen Club
An Invitation to Compete
Dear Club Members:
In an effort to diversify our club’s agenda and to make Harvard Sportsmen’s Club stand out in our community, we are proud to announce that we will run four matches in this coming summer. Prizes in the form of firearms and firearm accessories will be given out to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in each competition. These competitions are open to all club members. For the 200/300 yard matches, participants must be qualified at those ranges prior to entering.
Below we explain what the matches are, the rules of engagement and the scoring criteria.
50 BMG (optics allowed)
Rules: Every interested member must first purchase a $10 target from one of the designated committee members. Then, under the supervision of one of the committee members (see list below) the contestant will shoot a total of 5 rounds per target at the 300 yard range. The target will be scored on the spot, and the results will be recorded and communicated in our weekly emails. The contestants can therefore keep track of their competitors and decide whether to purchase additional targets in order to improve and further-compete. At the time of completion (dates will be announced in a separate email), a thorough and decisive process will establish the first, second and third place winners as follows.
Scoring Criteria: The score distributions of all shooters will be compared and grouped according to the highest scores. If two or more distributions have the same highest score (this is likely to occur), then a consistency analysis will be implemented to determine the winner in that class. More specifically, the mean of each distribution in a given class will be computed. The highest mean earns the winner of the class. If two or more distributions have the same mean, (although less likely, this could still occur) the standard deviation of those distributions will be computed to decide who the winner is. The smallest standard deviation (statistically this measures the spread of the data from its mean) will be the deciding factor in this latter case.
Example: Player 1’s scores: 5, 6, 10; Player 2’s scores: 4, 7, 10. Note that both distributions belong to the same class, since they are ranked according to the largest value, here 10. Also, both of these distributions have the same mean - 3. However, the standard deviation for Player 1’s distribution is 2.16, while the standard deviation for Player 2’s distribution is 2.45. In this case, Player 1 wins. (Note: a single-score distribution will automatically be discarded in a multi-distribution analysis. For instance, a distribution containing only a ‘10’ will automatically be discarded in the above example. However, a 10-X will win over a plain 10, as will a 10-XX over a 10-X and so on, where X denotes a bull’s eye shot.)
Prizes: Giveaway prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third place winners. A list of these prizes will be sent out separately for all four matches. In addition, the winner in any given class can opt out of that class’ trophy and choose a trophy of interest from the classes below. In other words, whatever the reasons may be, the 1st place winner of any match can choose to replace that 1st entry prize with any of the 2nd or 3rd place prizes. Sure enough, the third place contestant will not have this option. We are pleased to have Four Seasons Firearms in Woburn assist us in this process, and we would like to extend our thanks and gratitude to Carl Ingrao and his staff. If you ever find yourself wandering in that neighborhood, you should definitely stop by Carl’s store and check out his amazing deals.

OPEN CLASS - 223 OR HIGHER (optics allowed)
This match will be run at the 200 yard range and will follow the same rules and scoring criteria as the 50 BMG. The ONLY difference is in the number of shots per target; the open class match will require a total of 10 shots per target.
Your Committee,
Ed Sawyer: eddsawyer@verizon.net
Carl Adams: libertycarl@verizon.net
Alex Frumosu: a_frumosu@yahoo.com
COWBOY ACTION (iron sights only)
This match will be run at the 100 yard range and will follow the same rules as the Open Class above. Only lever-action rifles will be allowed in any caliber.
Your Committee:
Bill Batty: batlaw@battylaw.com
Peter Tierney: petetierney@verizon.net
Aaron Haines: aaronhaines@gmail.com
CLASS 3 MATCH (optics allowed)
In this match two 10-round magazine will be discharged in full-auto mode for a total of 20 rounds. Any caliber among 22LR, 380, 9mm or 45ACP will be allowed.
Your Committee:
Matt Pallet: matt@pallett.com
Clarence Floyd: cfloyd720@hotmail.com
Additional Notes:
1. Committee members are interchangeable – that is, a committee member can serve as “judge” for any of these matches, not only for the one they are listed above. We encourage more club members to volunteer as judges; we would certainly appreciate their helping in with this wonderful event. A judge’s mission is to supervise a match, to distribute targets, to collect the proceeds and to ensure that the match had been played by the rules.
2. Whether or not “you” serve as a judge, if you want your name added to the email list where information about these matches will be circulated, email Alex (a_frumosu@yahoo.com) and let him know.
3. The four competitions will start on Friday June 1 – 2012 and will end promptly at noon time, Monday, October 8 – 2012 (Columbus Day).Last edited by Busa; 06-10-2012 at 11:37 PM.

It is a mil. target and i believe the target says it is a 300y scaled down to 200y. Looks like this 200_Yd_Reduction_of_300_Yd.jpg
Everyone I have seen has shot from a bench but I do not believe the rules state how you have to shoot. I will ask and let you know. I will also be at the club tomorrow from 4:30 on if anyone wants to give it a try.Last edited by Busa; 06-13-2012 at 05:39 PM.

Not sure what's happening in the other classes, in the 200 yard 10 shot Open Class the mark to beat is a 100 - 7X.
That's some serious pounding. You want change in MA. ?
Get out and do something about it.
Right now all 3 branches of MA .gov are controlled by anti 2A Democrats.
Until that is changed we're playing defense.
So, if you really want to see change in this state, get out to your clubs, your neighborhoods, your towns and figure out how to put people into office that can make change happen. Until we see a tectonic shift in the balance of power on Beacon Hill, we're playing defense.
