You have some reading to do my friend. But to answer your question that will work, however it has a bayonet lug on it which you would have to grind off.

Yes I know about the bayonet lug.

I'm trying to gather all information I can.

    Thanks

This. Get a 1:7. Preferably a Noveske. Buy once, cry once, shoot thousands of rounds more than a lower quality barrel before replacing.

ETA: a 1:9 twist will not stabilize heavier rounds adequately. If you want to shoot high quality match ammo at any point like 75gr or 77gr you'll need the faster twist.

It was explained to me the opposite way. Thanks.

Ah, we'll the 1:9 means 1 full 360deg twist every 9" of barrel length.

So the 1:7 has 1 per 7", or more rotations for an equal length barrel in 1:9.

The faster rotation imparts faster spin on the round creating better stability in flight.

The 1:9 is commonly referred to as a "slower" twist for .223.

These numbers do not apply to every caliber, they change. An example would be my .308WIN has a 1:10 twist which is considered the "fast" twist good for up to about 210gr, where a "slow" .308 twist would be 1:13 or 1:12 good for 150-160ish grain.

What applications would you want a slower twist?

High quality match ammo out of a $140 barrel?
