.22LR High Velocity question
Hi, I'm hoping someone can assist. What is the difference between .22LR cartridges and .22LR High Velocity cartridges? Are both ok for an indoor range? Thanks!

That little copper coated 33..40gr bullet would be easy for any range. Don't sweat it. JP

I don't know of any indoor ranges were .22LR HV would be an issue.
BUT, as my Wife has taken up shooting mostly .22LR I have learned a lot about what works and what doesn't and why.
HV ammo in pistols is probably NOT a good idea unless the particular gun/conversion kit SPECIFICALLY instruction sheet tells you to use it.
Examples:
- Ruger Single Six revolver - HV ammo shoots OK, but pushing the empties out (it's a Single Action job with a ramrod type deal for removing one case at a time) was a challenge. Using Std Vel ammo, no big problem.
- Jams in many semi-autos that aren't made for HV ammo. Std Vel ammo runs fine.
- Advantage Arms .22LR conversion kit for Glock SPECIFICALLY tells you to use Rem Golden Bullets (HV) and they run great. Instructions explain that Std Vel may not cycle properly causing malfunctions.
- Ciener .22LR conversion kit for 1911 works fine with Rem Golden Bullets too. Other ammo tried caused malfunctions or worse (leading up barrel big-time with Rem Thunderbolts HV).

Is Remington Thunderbolt really HV? I thought that was their cheap stuff. It seems dirty and low quality to me.
I find the Velocitor ammunition works real well in a Ruger MkII autoloading pistol, probably better than anything else I've used, but it is relatively expensive compared to the bulk-pack stuff.

It is marked HV. Stats might tell more but Remington's website is crap and has no useful info on 22 ammo.
It is certainly very dirty and low quality!
There are some guns that like the stuff, but you need to be very careful if yours doesn't like it. The leading will drive you crazy and could be dangerous if that is the case.
